The timber hall of Acacia Steakhouse Cebu lit from within at dusk beneath tall trees

Ask a Cebuano where to eat steak. You will hear this name first.

Six visits over seven years, and four of my ten photographs are the building rather than the food. That is the whole explanation. Branches, prices, and the one word to change when you order.

When I moved to Cebu I did what everybody does. I typed where to eat steak in Cebu into a search bar. Acacia came back first, and it kept coming back first. Then I started asking people who actually live here, and the answer barely changed: Acacia, or Luzern, and Luzern with the small note that it is the original one.

Seven years later I have been back six times, almost never on my own initiative. Somebody books it, somebody has a birthday, somebody is showing a visitor around. That is the thing worth writing about here, and it is not really the steak. Acacia is the default answer to a question Cebuanos get asked constantly, and becoming the default answer is a harder trick than being the best.

What a default answer is built on

I went back through my own photographs of this place, ten frames across six visits between November 2019 and February 2026, and the count surprised me. Four of the ten are not food. They are the building. A dark timber hall under tall trees with the light pouring out of it at dusk. An open sided pavilion with globe lights strung under a timber roof. A lounge with sofas and plants and a warm ceiling.

I did not decide to document the architecture. I just kept pointing the camera at it, on separate visits, years apart, without noticing. If that is what one person does across six visits, it is what everyone is doing, and it is why this name surfaces first. The room photographs. Photographs get posted. Posted rooms become the answer.

The second thing is the floor price. The Butcher’s Steak is ₱595. That is the number that lets somebody send a group message on a Tuesday without anybody having to check their balance first, and it is lower than the entry steak at every other steakhouse on this site. A place people can invite you to gets invited to a lot.

The third is geography, and it is recent. There are three branches now and they are not clustered. Capitol on Acacia Street in the middle of the city, Mandani Bay up in Mandaue, Paseo Arcenas down in Banawa. North, center and south. Whoever is doing the inviting, one of them is on their side of the traffic. No other steakhouse in this city has done that.

What arrives, and the one thing to say when you order

It comes on a cast iron plate, still sizzling, set into a wooden board with the Acacia mark burned into it. The steak is already sliced. There is a heap of sweetcorn kernels and a small metal cup of gravy. I have photographs of that exact arrangement from 2019, 2020, 2024 and 2026, and you would struggle to date them apart. Seven years without drift is its own kind of achievement.

25 September 2020. Sliced before it reaches you, and still cooking.

Understand what that format is doing. A sizzling plate is not a serving dish, it is a cooking surface that keeps working after it leaves the kitchen. The steak arrives already cut, so every slice has two more faces touching hot iron, and it carries on cooking in front of you while everyone takes their photographs and passes the rice around. That is why the plate is loud and why it lands well at a table of six.

It also means the doneness you order is not the doneness you eat. Order one level rarer than you actually want. Ask for medium rare if you want medium. If you want a thick unsliced cut with a crust you build yourself, this is not that format, and that is a preference rather than a criticism. Go to Luzern or Fat Jim’s for that, and the full Cebu steakhouse comparison is here.

What it costs

From the menu published on their own site, checked 30 August 2026:

  • Butcher’s Steak: ₱595
  • Skirt Steak: ₱1,200
  • Lamb Chops: ₱1,350
  • Ribeye: ₱2,500

That spread is the strategy in four lines. The gap between the entry steak and the ribeye is more than four times, which means one table can hold somebody spending ₱595 and somebody spending ₱2,500 without either of them feeling out of place. Restaurants that manage that get booked for groups, and groups are what fill an open sided pavilion on a Saturday.

The three branches, and which one to pick

Capitol. Acacia Street, Cebu City. The original, and the one in every photograph here. Garden and al fresco, big trees, the timber pavilion. If somebody says Acacia without qualifying it, they mean this one, and it is the one to pick if the point of the evening is the setting.

Mandani Bay. F. E. Zuellig Avenue, Mandaue City. Coastal, with a steak bar and a private room that seats twelve. The one for a north side crowd or a group that needs a door that closes.

Paseo Arcenas. Banawa, Cebu City. Indoors with a mezzanine and a family room for ten. The south side option, and the one that works when the weather does not.

Hours. Open daily, 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, across all three. Checked 30 August 2026. Book for the Capitol branch on a weekend rather than turning up.

Frequently asked questions

How many branches does Acacia Steakhouse have in Cebu?

Three. Capitol on Acacia Street in Cebu City, Mandani Bay on F. E. Zuellig Avenue in Mandaue, and Paseo Arcenas in Banawa. The Capitol branch is the original.

How much is steak at Acacia Steakhouse?

The Butcher’s Steak starts at ₱595 and the ribeye runs to ₱2,500, with skirt steak at ₱1,200 and lamb chops at ₱1,350. Prices from their own published menu, checked 30 August 2026.

What should you order at Acacia Steakhouse?

Whatever you order arrives sliced on a sizzling cast iron plate, so ask for it one level rarer than you want. The plate keeps cooking at the table and a medium ordered here tends to arrive closer to medium well by the time everyone has finished photographing it.

Is Acacia Steakhouse good for groups?

It is built for them. The price spread lets a table hold very different budgets, two branches have private rooms, and the sizzling plate format is designed to land hot in front of several people at once.
