Chika-Chon in Lahug: Cebu’s Newest Lechon House Took Over a Cebuano Landmark

A pig in a party hat now sits where Chika-an sa Cebu stood on Salinas Drive. Suroy.ph was there on opening day in December 2025 for the dancers and the flower stands, and went back to the numbers in August 2026 to see what actually stuck.

There is a cartoon pig on the sign at 42 Salinas Drive, pink and grinning, and it is the first clue that something changed here.

For years this address in Lahug was Chika-an sa Cebu, which is the kind of restaurant a Cebuano family books for a birthday without discussing it first. The building is the same building. The lot is the same lot. The sign now reads CHIKA CHON, and underneath, in small letters, HOME OF CEBU’S LECHON.

It opened on 18 December 2025. Suroy.ph was at the launch: Sinulog dancers coming up the driveway in full red and gold, a wall of flower stands along the frontage, the whole floor staff lined up in front of them for the photograph. Eight months on, the question worth answering is not whether the opening was good. Openings are always good. The question is what the place is like once the balloons come down.

What Chika-Chon actually is

A Cebuano lechon house with a full Filipino kitchen behind it.

The lechon is the headline and it is treated that way: whole pigs on the rotisserie by the entrance, carved to order on a board in front of you, sold by weight. Everything else on the menu is the food you would actually order around a lechon, which is to say sabaw, utan, sugba, kan-on. The menu does not translate itself for tourists. Section headings run in Bisaya with the English in brackets, so Pampagana sits above the appetisers and Pang-himagas above the desserts.

It tells you who the place thinks it is cooking for.

What happened to Chika-an Lahug

Chika-an sa Cebu no longer operates at 42 Salinas Drive. Chika-Chon does. The address is identical down to the street number, and the handover was confirmed on opening day by three separate parties including Chika-Chon itself. The launch was announced through the Facebook page of Creative Cuisine Group, the Cebu restaurant group that runs Chika-an, which is as close to a stated corporate relationship as anyone has put on the record. There has been no announcement from either brand describing the arrangement, and the group’s own website was still listing the Lahug branch as an active Chika-an when we checked on 16 August 2026, which it is not. Treat that listing as stale.

What is not in doubt is that Chika-an itself is fine. It was still running branches, as listed in August 2026, at Ayala Center Cebu, SM City Cebu, SM Seaside, Robinsons Galleria, Parkmall, Il Corso, Mactan Promenade, The Outlets at Pueblo Verde and SM Consolacion, plus a newer one at Patria de Cebu beside the Basilica. This was one address changing concept, not a brand in retreat.

The lechon

Sold by weight, four sizes, two ways.

1/2 kilo₱769₱819
3/4 kilo₱1,049₱1,099
1 kilo₱1,399₱1,449

A quarter kilo is a portion for one person who is also eating rice and soup. A kilo feeds four adults who came for the lechon and nothing else.

The two dishes that tell you whether a lechon house is serious are the ones built from the leftovers, and both are on here. Lechon paksiw at ₱349 is the slow-cooked version in the vinegar and liver sauce. Lechon sisig at ₱299 is the chopped version, onions and chilli, served on the sizzling plate. If you are ordering for a table and want to try the kitchen rather than just the pig, order the sisig alongside the quarter kilo rather than instead of it.

The rest of the menu, and the section it hides in

Sabaw is where this menu is more interesting than it needs to be.

Utan bisaya at ₱160 is the cheapest thing in the section and the one that tells you most. Tinolang manok is ₱305, sinigang shrimp ₱350, nilagang baka ₱565, clams soup ₱230, mamichon ₱285. Under Utan, gising gising at ₱145, binagoongang kangkong ₱220, pinakbet with buwad ₱245.

Under Espesyal there is ginataang kalderetang kambing at ₱595, which is goat in a coconut and tomato base and is the single most ambitious thing on the menu. Fried pompano ₱450, bangus bistek ₱325, buttered chicken ₱325, adobong pusit ₱465.

Sugba is short and cheap on purpose: chicken BBQ ₱195, pork BBQ ₱185, grilled tuna panga from ₱345 regular to ₱450 jumbo. Rice is ₱40 a cup plain, ₱50 garlic, with platters at ₱105 and ₱135.

Pampagana holds the two things a table always ends up ordering: baked scallops ₱245 and buttered garlic shrimp ₱345. Tangigue pomelo kinilaw is ₱295 and is the one to get if only one person at the table is going to order a salad.

What it costs, and the thing delivery does not tell you

Order the same dishes through foodpanda and you pay roughly a sixth more.

Buttered chicken₱325₱38016.9%
Lechon sisig₱299₱34916.7%
Baked scallops₱245₱29018.4%
Buttered garlic shrimp₱345₱40015.9%

That is a gap of between 15.9 and 18.4 per cent across five unrelated dishes, which is a platform markup rather than a price rise. Most restaurants in Cebu do it and almost none of them say so. On a table for four it is the difference between ordering the goat and not.

One honest caveat. The board figures are from December 2025 and the menu has been updated since, so part of that gap may now be a real price change rather than a markup. Delivery has costs of its own and somebody has to carry them. Worth knowing anyway: if you are choosing between eating there and ordering in, the number on your screen is not the number on the wall.

Delivery prices checked August 2026. Board prices photographed December 2025.

The room

Two floors, and the upper one is the better seat.

Rattan pendants down the void, mezzanine above. December 2025.

The build is warm rather than rustic: pale timber, woven rattan pendant lamps hung in a row down the void, patterned floor tile, a mezzanine that looks back down over the ground floor. Planters along the frontage separate the dining room from Salinas Drive without closing it off, so the front tables get daylight. The carving station and the rotisserie sit where you can see them, which not every lechon house bothers with.

Condiment bottles come to the table in a rack. Napkins stand in a wooden cup. It is a family restaurant that has thought about photographs, which in 2026 is table stakes rather than a compliment.

Seating capacity, function rooms and parking are not published anywhere and we have not counted them ourselves. If you are booking a group, call ahead.

How to get there

42 Salinas Drive, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. 10.3293° N, 123.9021° E.

Salinas Drive is the corridor that runs between JY Square and Cebu Exchange, one block off the Gorordo and Escario spine, and it is a five-minute walk from JY Square Mall. From Ayala Center Cebu it is roughly ten minutes by car outside rush hour and twice that inside it. From Cebu IT Park it is under ten minutes.

By jeepney, anything running the Lahug and JY Square corridor drops you within walking distance; check the code at the windscreen against the route board rather than the destination name. Cebu’s minimum jeepney fare was adjusted upward in March 2026, so carry more coins than the figures you find on older blogs suggest.

Delivery hours on foodpanda are 11:00 AM to 9:45 PM daily. Dine-in is listed at 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, which is consistent with that cutoff, but the figure rests on one unofficial listing and we have not confirmed it with the restaurant. No phone number has been published. The Facebook page, chikachonph, is the one channel that is reliably current.

Hours checked August 2026.

The verdict

The lechon is the reason to come and the sisig is the reason to come back.

What Chika-Chon is really doing is taking a format Cebu already trusts, the big Cebuano family restaurant, and pointing all of it at one dish. That is a narrower bet than the room it inherited, and it works because the supporting menu is not an afterthought. The soups are priced like somebody expects you to order two.

Go with four people. Order a half kilo original, the lechon sisig, one soup and the baked scallops, and you will spend about ₱1,620 before rice and drinks for a table that eats properly. Go with two and the quarter kilo plus a sugba plate does the job for well under a thousand.

If you loved Chika-an Lahug, you have not lost a restaurant. You have lost a menu. The room is still there and it still smells like a Cebuano birthday.
