Kadayawan’s biggest Sunday now has two separate centers of gravity.
The Pamulak ug Indak-Indak street parade begins at 6:00 AM on August 16, following the traditional route from Roxas Avenue to San Pedro Square. The Grand Showdown is a separate evening event at 6:00 PM, moving for the first time to the Davao Coastal Road near Tulip Drive.
That separation matters. A good position along the downtown parade route will not automatically place a visitor near the evening showdown. Treat August 16 as two events, with a long break and a venue transfer between them.

The important 2026 change
Earlier versions of this guide correctly warned readers not to assume that the 2025 route or venue would carry over. Davao City has now confirmed the 2026 arrangement.
The street-dance competition remains in the downtown core, beginning on Roxas Avenue and ending at San Pedro Square. The evening Grand Showdown moves to the Coastal Road at Tulip Drive, a larger setting that changes how spectators should plan transport, meals, rest, and arrival time.
Do not arrive at San Pedro Square late in the afternoon expecting the showdown to happen there. Do not head directly to Tulip Drive at dawn expecting to see the full street parade. The two programs are connected by competition, but not by one continuous spectator location.
What is happening on Saturday, August 15
Saturday is the better day for visitors who want Kadayawan without committing to the dawn parade.
The current festival program includes the continuing Dayaw arts, culture, and film activities, Dula Kadayawan, Konsierto Kadayawan, and the Kadayawan Expo and Food Trucks Bazaar at the Rizal Park Open Grounds. The expo and food-truck bazaar is currently listed for 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM daily from August 13 to 16. Other program times can still change, so check the latest post from the official Kadayawan page before setting out.
The Dayaw Art Walk uses Davao’s cultural and creative spaces as a route. The published path begins at Poblacion Market and continues through stops that include Freedom Park, Emilia’s Mindanao Souvenir Center, the Upside Down Museum, Cafe Gervacios, the Royal Mandaya Hotel, and Cinematheque Centre Davao.
This is the day to learn what Kadayawan is celebrating before the floats and contingents fill Sunday. The festival is rooted in thanksgiving, harvest, the city’s agricultural abundance, and the cultures of Davao’s 11 ethnolinguistic communities. The 2026 theme, “We are one, KadayaONE!”, is framed through the image of communities woven together.
Sunday morning: the Pamulak ug Indak-Indak parade
The parade begins at 6:00 AM. That means the practical arrival is earlier.
A spectator who wants a clear view should aim to be in the downtown area before road closures and crowd density make the last kilometer difficult. There is no single universally “best” position because shade, access, barriers, media zones, and security controls can change along the route. Choose a place with a safe exit rather than pressing toward the narrowest crowd.
The parade brings together two visual languages of Kadayawan:
- Pamulak: floral floats and displays of Davao’s harvest, flowers, fruit, and agricultural identity
- Indak-Indak: street-dance contingents carrying stories through costume, rhythm, movement, and local tradition
The city traffic advisory traces the downtown parade from Roxas Avenue, turning left onto C.M. Recto Avenue, right onto Bonifacio Street, left onto Pelayo Street, then left onto San Pedro Street toward San Pedro Square. Follow the newest map issued by the City Transport and Traffic Management Office rather than an old festival graphic saved on social media.
Sunday evening: the Grand Showdown at Tulip Drive
The Grand Showdown is scheduled for 6:00 PM at the Davao Coastal Road near Tulip Drive.
This is the first year the showdown moves to this location. The larger venue may change access patterns, spectator entrances, vehicle drop-off points, and the walking distance from the nearest open road. Those operating details can still be refined close to the event.
Allow more transfer time than the map suggests. Festival traffic is not ordinary Davao traffic, and a ride-hailing pin placed inside a closure does not guarantee the driver can reach it.
The safest plan is to leave the downtown parade area after the morning program, rest during the hottest part of the day, then travel toward Tulip Drive well before the evening start. Do not make a tightly timed restaurant reservation between the two venues.
A realistic August 16 plan
4:30 to 5:00 AM: Leave the hotel and approach the downtown route on foot from the nearest open drop-off point.
Before 6:00 AM: Settle into a safe viewing position with a clear exit.
Morning: Watch the Pamulak and Indak-Indak contingents pass.
Late morning to mid-afternoon: Return to the hotel or move to an indoor meal and rest stop. Charge phones and camera batteries.
Around 4:00 PM or earlier: Begin the transfer toward the Davao Coastal Road, depending on the final traffic advisory.
6:00 PM: Grand Showdown near Tulip Drive.
After the program: Expect a slow exit. Agree on a family meeting point before the crowd begins moving.
This is a planning outline, not an organizer timetable for gates or program duration. Adjust it when the final advisory is posted.
Security rules and what not to bring
Davao City has placed a prohibited-items policy across Kadayawan events. Earlier city notices included firearms, knives, umbrellas, alcoholic drinks, backpacks, jackets or hoodies, lighters, unauthorized security uniforms, non-transparent water containers, toy guns, and laser lights.
Check the newest official list before leaving because enforcement details can be updated. A lightweight poncho is more useful than an umbrella if umbrellas remain prohibited. Carry only what can pass inspection quickly.
A small transparent bag, identification, a charged phone, a power bank, cash in small denominations, and a transparent water container are the safer starting point, subject to the final rules.
Heat, rain, and festival stamina
August in Davao can be very warm even when showers are possible. The August 16 outlook checked on August 13 suggested very warm conditions with the possibility of brief rain. Forecasts change, so use it only as an early signal and recheck PAGASA before dawn.
The difficult part of the day may not be rain. It may be the combination of predawn travel, standing, humidity, midday heat, another venue transfer, and a long evening program.
Drink water before thirst becomes the reminder. Eat a real meal between the parade and showdown. Give children and older companions an easy exit plan. No view is worth pushing someone past the point where the festival stops being enjoyable.

Temporary road closures and rerouting will affect the downtown parade corridor and the Tulip Drive area. Monitor:

A practical approach is to stay within walking distance of the downtown route for the morning, then use the hotel as the reset point before the evening transfer. Why the route matters
Kadayawan is often photographed as color, but the route carries meaning. The flowers, fruit, woven patterns, music, and movement come from communities whose stories are older than the festival staging around them.
The parade makes those stories public. The showdown gives them room to unfold.
Come early, travel light, listen to the city’s final advisories, and leave enough space in the day to experience both.
