Five gods rode five goats into a starving city. That is the name on the door.
Before the food comes out at Wu Yang they put a paper placemat in front of you, and on it is the reason the restaurant is called what it is. Guangzhou was starving. The drought had run for years. Then five gods came down on a colored cloud riding five goats, each goat carrying a stalk of grain, and they gave the grain to the people and left. The rains came back. The goats turned to stone on the hill.
Wu Yang means five goats. It is the old name for Guangzhou, and Guangzhou is where Cantonese cooking comes from. Most restaurants would put that story in a press release. This one prints it where you will actually read it, which is on the mat under your teapot at ten in the morning.

Where it is, and which branch this is
This is the Banilad High Street branch, along Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue in Cebu City. It opened in November 2024 and it is the second Wu Yang in the city. The first is at SM Seaside City Cebu. Both are operated by Choobi Choobi Flavors Corporation, whose CEO is Constantine Tanchan.
It sits on the same restaurant row as Hosaku, a minute away on foot. The Banilad building runs to two floors with a lift and a private function room, which matters more than it sounds. Cantonese restaurants live or die on the round table with ten people at it, and a Chinese restaurant with no room for a birthday is a Chinese restaurant with half a business.

The merienda window is the thing to know about
There is a separate Breakfast and Merienda menu, and it runs in two blocks: 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM, then 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. If you have ever wanted dim sum at three in the afternoon in Cebu without committing to a full lunch, that second window is the answer.
The bundle on it is pork and shrimp siomai, three pieces, plus century egg with chicken congee, plus unlimited Chinese tea, at a promo price of ₱195. The congee on its own is ₱125.
Run that arithmetic and it settles itself. The congee alone is ₱125. The bundle adds three siomai and a bottomless pot of tea for ₱70. Ordering the congee by itself is the expensive way to eat here.

Read the line at the bottom of the board
It says the menu prices include 12% VAT and are subject to a 5% service charge. That second half is the part people skim.
It is worth knowing because it is not the house rule everywhere in this city. At 8Cuts at SM City Cebu the board price is the bill, service charge included. Here the board is the base and five percent goes on top. On a ₱2,000 table that is ₱100 you did not read.
What to order
Siomai first, either kind. Crab and pork-and-shrimp are both ₱130 for three, which is the cheapest way to find out whether a Cantonese kitchen is serious. Wrapper thickness tells you everything in one bite.
Then wonton noodle soup at ₱240. Whole wontons sitting on top of the noodles rather than buried in them, in a broth clear enough to see the strands through. This is the plain test dish and it is the one to judge the place on.

Something green, because nothing else on this menu is. Cha tao miao at ₱275 if you want the good version, seasonal vegetable with oyster sauce at ₱170 if you want the cheap one. Order it early. It arrives faster than everything else and it is the only thing on the table that resets your mouth.

Skip the beef brisket noodle soup unless you are hungry. At ₱350 it is the most expensive bowl on the page and it will fill one person completely, which makes it the wrong order at a table that is meant to share.
Getting there
Where. Banilad High Street, Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue, Cebu City. The board lists 0917 160 3000 for inquiries.
Hours. The breakfast and merienda service runs 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM off the printed menu. Full closing time is not printed on the board photographed here, so confirm on their Facebook page before a late visit.
Allergies. The board asks you to tell the staff, which suggests they will work around it. Say it when you sit down rather than when the food lands.
Frequently asked questions
