Mainit Port’s return gives southern Cebu travelers a practical new way to reach Siquijor. Here is the honest route, cost and timing comparison.
For years, moving between southern Cebu and Siquijor was more awkward than it looked on a map. Oslob and Siquijor face the same stretch of sea, yet travelers often had to backtrack, detour through Dumaguete, or build a full day around several transfers.
Mainit Port has changed that. After sitting inactive for 15 years, the Oslob port reopened on May 22, 2026, restoring a daily ferry connection to Larena, Siquijor.
This is not automatically the fastest route from Cebu City. It is, however, the most interesting new option for anyone already exploring southern Cebu. If Oslob, Dalaguete, or Santander is part of your plan, Siquijor can now feel like the natural next stop instead of a separate trip.
Asian Marine Transport Corporation, the operator of Super Shuttle Ferry, now runs the Mainit Port to Larena route. The initial daily schedule published by the Province of Cebu is straightforward:
| Direction | Departure | Expected arrival | Crossing time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mainit Port, Oslob to Larena, Siquijor | 1:00 p.m. | 3:00 p.m. | About 2 hours |
| Larena, Siquijor to Mainit Port, Oslob | 8:00 a.m. | 10:00 a.m. | About 2 hours |
Economy fares start at about ₱500, while air-conditioned accommodation is listed at ₱650. Terminal fees and booking charges may be separate. The vessel is a RORO, so it can carry vehicles, but motorcycle and vehicle rates should be confirmed directly with the operator.
Ferry schedules can change because of weather, maintenance, and operating conditions. Always confirm the sailing before leaving for the port.
On paper, the moving time is about six hours. The bus from Cebu City to Oslob usually takes around four hours, followed by a two-hour crossing to Larena. In practice, the 1:00 p.m. ferry sets the rhythm of the entire day.
A realistic same-day journey looks like this:
The bus from Cebu City to Oslob currently costs roughly ₱269 to ₱330. Add the ₱500 to ₱650 ferry fare and the basic public transport total comes to about ₱769 to ₱980. That estimate does not include terminal fees, food, booking charges, or your transfer from Larena to your accommodation.
The number to remember is not six hours. The honest travel window begins before 7:00 a.m. in Cebu City and ends around 3:00 p.m. in Larena. Treat it as an eight-hour journey and the day will feel much less stressful.
It depends on where you are starting and what you want the journey to include.
| Route | Typical journey | Approximate passenger cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cebu City Pier 1 to Siquijor by fast ferry, usually via Tagbilaran | About 4 hours 40 minutes to 5 hours 20 minutes | From about ₱1,600 | Travelers starting in Cebu City who value simplicity and time |
| Cebu City to Oslob to Larena | About 6 hours moving, or roughly 8 hours with a sensible buffer | About ₱769 to ₱980 plus fees | Travelers already visiting Oslob or southern Cebu |
| Cebu City to Liloan, Santander to Larena | About 4 hours by road, plus a 2-hour RORO and waiting time | Bus fare plus about ₱275 for the ferry | Budget travelers whose dates match the limited sailings |
| Cebu City to Liloan or Sibulan to Dumaguete to Siquijor | Most of a day once transfers are counted | Varies by each leg | Travelers who also want Dumaguete or need more connection choices |
If you wake up in Cebu City and simply want to reach Siquijor as efficiently as possible, the fast ferry from Pier 1 still makes the most sense.
If you are already in Oslob, the new service is the route we would seriously consider. It removes the frustrating backtrack and turns two popular destinations into one clear itinerary.
The best version is not a rushed dash from Cebu City to the ferry. Give southern Cebu at least one night.
Head south after breakfast, check in, and spend the afternoon around Oslob. The Cuartel Ruins and the nearby coastline are particularly beautiful when the light softens. Sleeping in town also removes the pressure of gambling on early morning Cebu traffic.
If whale shark watching is part of your trip, go early and follow the viewing rules. Leave enough time to shower, collect your bags, and reach Mainit Port well before check-in closes.
The 1:00 p.m. ferry should place you in Larena around 3:00 p.m. Many visitors stay in San Juan, so remember that another land transfer follows the crossing. Keep the first evening simple. Check in, find dinner, and let the island slow the day down.
Use one day for the island circuit. Cambugahay Falls, Lazi Church and Convent, the Old Enchanted Balete Tree, and the coastal road fit naturally together. Keep another day for beaches, diving, or doing very little. Siquijor is always better when it is not treated like a checklist.

Bring a valid ID and enough cash for port expenses. Confirm the ferry the day before travel and again on the morning of departure. During habagat or when a gale warning is active, sailings may be delayed or cancelled. The operator and the Philippine Coast Guard make the final safety decision.
Check the arrival port printed on your ticket. This service arrives in Larena, not Siquijor town. That detail matters when arranging a hotel pickup or estimating the drive to San Juan.
Mainit Port does not replace every way of reaching Siquijor. What it does is restore the connection that southern Cebu travelers actually needed. For the right trip, Oslob is no longer where the road ends. It is where Siquijor begins.
