What Kind of Filipino Traveler Are You at the Airport?
The four hours early tita, the final call sprinter, the one with five boxes and their name in marker. Ten questions, plus the airport habits that save you.
Every Filipino family has the same argument about airports. One person wants to leave the house four hours early. One person is still packing when the car arrives. One person has five boxes tied with plastic straw and their name written on every side in marker, and one person just wants the window seat.
Which one are you? Ten questions about the security line, the gate change and the danggit in your hand carry. Nothing is stored. Answer for how you really travel, not how you wish you did.
What kind of Filipino traveler are you at the airport?
The airport habits that actually save you
Whatever your result, a few things make every Philippine airport easier.
- eTravel first. For international flights into the Philippines, register on the official site, etravel.gov.ph, within 72 hours before arrival and save the QR code. Departing Filipinos also register. It is free, so ignore any site asking for a fee. Our eTravel guide has the steps.
- Know your airline’s cutoff. Check-in counters close a set time before departure, and that time differs by airline and by domestic or international flight. Look it up for your ticket, not for the last flight you took.
- Weigh the bag at home. A luggage scale costs less than one kilo of excess baggage.
- Agree on the pickup point. Arrivals is crowded and signal can be patchy. Name a door, a pillar or a time.

What you can and cannot fly with, pasalubong edition
| Item | Domestic flight | International flight |
|---|---|---|
| Dried fish, sealed | Accepted in checked baggage when properly sealed | Depends on the destination’s quarantine rules; often restricted |
| Vacuum-packed lechon | Fine in checked baggage | Pork is refused by most countries, including the United States, Australia and Japan |
| Dried mangoes and biscuits | Fine | Usually fine when commercially packed and declared |
The full pasalubong rules, and where to buy each thing, are in the Cebu pasalubong quiz and guide.
If you are flying through Cebu
Mactan-Cebu has two terminals, and Terminal 2, the one with the glued-laminated timber arches, is worth arriving a little early for even if you are not the four hours early type. The yellow airport taxis are metered with a ₱115 flag-down since 28 September 2026. Everything else, from check-in to transport counters, is in the Mactan-Cebu airport guide, and every route out is in direct flights from Cebu.

Some people collect airport codes the way others collect fridge magnets. If CEB is your home code, it is on the Airport Series CEB tee, runway and all.
