Kokeek’s Manokan is a Bacolod-style inasal house on Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue, and one of the cheapest ways into Cebu’s 2027 Michelin list. A charcoal-grilled paa is ₱160. Add garlic java rice at ₱50 and a Coke at ₱40, and lunch is ₱250. The setup is pure manokan: gingham tablecloths, green plastic plates and cups, a bottle of sinamak and a bottle of soy on every table, and plastic chairs in red and yellow.

Build the plate

A paa (₱160), garlic java rice (₱50) and a Coke (₱40). The safe lunch, and one of the cheapest Michelin meals in Cebu.
A paa (₱160) plus the small parts: isol (₱100) and atay (₱70), with garlic java rice (₱50) and a Coke (₱40). Sinamak, soy and calamansi in the little dish, hands not forks.
The pechopak, breast and wing (₱160), bul-o, the charred skin (₱70), three ngohiong (₱65), java rice (₱45) and bottled water (₱30).
Beef cansi with the marrow (listed at ₱500 or ₱530; the plan uses ₱500), two paa (₱320), a pechopak (₱160), four plain rice (₱160), two sodas (₱80) and two bottled waters (₱60).
What to order
Pick your cut. Paa is the safe order and pechopak the big one. The real manokan move is a paa plus a couple of the small parts: isol, atay, bul-o or baticolon, each ₱100 or less. Pour the sinamak and soy into the little dish, squeeze in calamansi, and eat with your hands.
The one dish that is not chicken is the beef cansi, Bacolod’s sour beef shank soup with the marrow still in the bone, at ₱500 or ₱530. If you came from the Marjo’s Pochero article, this is its Negrense cousin.
Worth knowing before you go
It is a roadside garage of a place, open to the street on one side, with wall fans and a staircase to a second level. Midday is hot in there. At 12:45 on a Saturday every table was full and people were still walking in. Go before noon or late in the afternoon.
