Christmas Flights Home 2026: Eleven Days Off for Two Days of Leave, and When to Book
File leave on December 28 and 29 and Christmas Eve runs to January 3. The October seat sales are over and surcharges are up. What December 2026 flights cost now and how to book them.
Christmas Eve to January 3 is eleven days off for two days of leave this year. The October seat sales are over, fuel surcharges are up, and the busiest airport weekend is likely the Saturday before Christmas.

The 2026 calendar is generous. Christmas Eve on Thursday, December 24 starts a four-day weekend, and Rizal Day on Wednesday, December 30 starts a five-day one that ends Sunday, January 3. File leave on Monday, December 28 and Tuesday, December 29, and the two join into eleven days. The question now is getting a seat for those days at a price you can live with, and the cheap October fares are gone.

Plan the trip home: the calendar
Christmas 2026 calendar
How long can you stay home?
Two breaks with no leave: Thursday, December 24 to Sunday, December 27 (4 days), and Wednesday, December 30 to Sunday, January 3 (5 days). Fly home on the 23rd or the morning of the 24th, back by the 27th, and do it again for New Year.
File Monday, December 28 and Tuesday, December 29. Christmas Eve runs straight to Sunday, January 3: eleven days off for two days of leave. One flight each way instead of two.
File December 21 to 23 and December 28 to 29. Sixteen days, Saturday, December 19 to Sunday, January 3. The catch: day one is the Saturday before Christmas, the slot that set Manila airport’s one-day passenger record last season, so fly early that morning or on the Friday night.
What flights cost right now
Fuel surcharge. The Civil Aeronautics Board raised the fuel surcharge to Level 17 for November 1 to 15, 2026: ₱559 to ₱1,635 one way on domestic flights depending on distance, and ₱1,846.10 to ₱13,726.58 on international ones (GMA News and Context.ph, October 28, 2026). GMA reported that the level applies to tickets booked in that window. The board is now setting a new level every two weeks, so a ticket bought after November 15 may carry a different surcharge.
Seat sales. Every sale that covered December travel has closed. Cebu Pacific’s ₱188 sale ended October 4 and its ₱88 payday sale ended October 18, both for travel from November 1, 2026 to January 31, 2027 (PhilstarLife, October 1 and 16, 2026). AirAsia’s 10.10 sale ended October 11. Last year, Cebu Pacific ran 11.11 and 12.12 sales and Philippine Airlines opened a year-end sale on November 17 (Daily Tribune, November 17, 2025). The 2026 versions had not been announced as of November 1.
There is no fare cap on domestic routes beyond the surcharge ceiling, and no 2026 holiday fare statement from the transport department had been published as of November 1.
The busiest days at the airport
Manila’s airport set its one-day record of 171,306 passengers on Saturday, December 20, 2025, and expected 2.55 million passengers from December 20 to January 4 (Manila Bulletin, December 22, 2025). The same weekend in 2026 falls on Saturday, December 19 and Sunday, December 20. Expect that weekend, and the days just before Christmas Eve, to be the hardest to book and the slowest to get through.
For airport time, Cebu Pacific told passengers to arrive 3 hours before domestic flights and 4 hours before international ones in its Undas 2026 advisory, the same guidance it gave for Christmas 2024. Mactan-Cebu ran its Oplan Biyaheng Ayos holiday operation from December 20, 2025 to January 4, 2026 and asked passengers to come early. The 2026 dates had not been announced.
Flying in from abroad
Philippine Airlines has scheduled holiday flights between Cebu and Guam on an Airbus A321: from Cebu on December 17, 23 and 24 and January 2, 3 and 6 (AeroRoutes, September 15, 2026). It is also adding Manila to Tokyo flights and extra Melbourne and Perth dates in December and January (Philstar, July 8, 2026). If Cebu flights are full, flying into Dumaguete and crossing by ferry is covered in our Dumaguete gateway guide.
Before you land: register on eTravel, check whether you owe travel tax on the way back out, and if you are sending gifts ahead, the balikbayan box cutoffs are close.
How to book it
Pick the days first. Use the calendar above to decide how many leave days you can file, then fix the outbound and return dates before you look at fares.
Price both breaks. If you are not filing leave, price the December 24 to 27 weekend and the December 30 to January 3 weekend separately. One of them may be far cheaper.
Avoid the rush Saturday. If your leave starts December 19, look at the Friday night instead.
Watch for 11.11 and 12.12. If a sale opens for your dates, book that day. Holiday seats go first.
If it goes wrong. Know what the airline owes you when a flight is moved or canceled: our flight rights guide has the rules.
