How to Get to Islas de Gigantes
This is the part people underestimate. Gigantes is not a day trip from Iloilo City in any sane sense of the phrase, and the tour operators who sell it as one are selling you four hours in a van and two hours on a boat for a few hours of island.
- Iloilo City to Carles or Estancia: bus or van, roughly 3 to 4 hours. Van transfers run about ₱350 one way, often with a brutal 4am pickup
- Carles to Bancal Port: tricycle, around ₱80
- Bancal Port to Gigantes: public passenger boat, around ₱260, and it takes close to 2 hours
- Island hopping day tour: joiner tours from around ₱999 per head. Private whole-day boat packages run into the thousands
- Scallops: around ₱200 for a plate, and they are the cheapest good thing you will eat this year

How much does a Gigantes Island trip cost?
A joiner island-hopping day tour starts around ₱999 per person. Doing it independently, budget roughly ₱350 for the van from Iloilo, ₱80 for the tricycle, and ₱260 for the public boat each way, plus your boat hire on the island. Rates as of July 2026.
Can you do Gigantes as a day trip from Iloilo City?
Technically. You will leave at 4am, spend most of the day in transit, and see the islands through a haze of exhaustion. Stay overnight on Gigantes Norte instead. The islands are worth an overnight and they punish a rush.
What is the best time to visit Islas de Gigantes?
The dry months, roughly November to May. Outside that window boat crossings get cancelled and the two-hour open-water run from Bancal stops being charming.
Is Cabugao Gamay the one from the photos?
Yes. The curved sliver of sand between two rock outcrops, shot from the viewpoint above, is Cabugao Gamay, and it is on every Gigantes tour. It is also small, and by mid-morning it has a queue for the viewpoint. Go early or go last.
