Weekend Getaways From Cebu City Without Filing Leave: Six Trips That Fit 36 Hours
Six weekend trips from IT Park and Cebu Business Park that fit between a Saturday 7 AM log-out and Sunday 7 PM, with the one ferry or bus each depends on.
A Saturday 7 AM log-out and a Sunday 7 PM return give a night-shift worker 36 hours. Six trips fit inside them, from a Grab ride up to Busay to a five-hour bus to Malapascua.
The shift ends at 7 AM on Saturday. The next shift is Sunday night, or Monday morning if you are lucky. That is 36 hours, and most of it disappears into sleep and errands unless the trip is planned around the one ferry or bus that actually decides it.
Every escape below starts at IT Park or Cebu Business Park, needs zero leave, and puts you back in the city by 7 PM Sunday with time to eat and sleep before you log in again. Each one names the trip that matters, because on a 36-hour weekend there is always exactly one boat you cannot miss.
Pick a weekend: the 36-hour planner
Tap a destination. The bar shows where the 36 hours go: orange is time on a bus or a boat, navy is time actually there, gray is sleep. Times are a working plan built on schedules checked November 1, 2026.

The short answer
If you are tired, go up, not out: Busay costs two hours of the weekend. If you want a beach and a boat, Bohol and Camotes give the most island for the least transit, around seven to eight hours of travel each. Moalboal and Kawasan is the best weekend on mainland Cebu. Bantayan and Malapascua work, but each eats twelve to thirteen hours on the road, so go only if the place is the point.
Moalboal and Kawasan: the best mainland weekend

Take the Ceres bus marked Bato via Barili from the South Bus Terminal. The last published table puts it at ₱210 aircon and ₱172 ordinary, but provincial bus fares went up on September 28, 2026 and the terminal tables had not caught up when we checked, so treat those as the floor. It is about three and a half hours to Moalboal.
Sleep the afternoon. The sardine run at Panagsama is right off the shore, so Sunday at 5 AM costs nothing but an alarm. Then go south to Matutinao for Kawasan by 8 AM. Entrance is ₱200, cash only, and canyoneering is ₱2,000 per person, a rate fixed by ordinance, so a quote above it is a quote to walk away from. Canyoneering stops after heavy rain. The falls stayed open through the 2026 rehabilitation.
The catch: nobody posts the last northbound bus from Badian or Moalboal. Board by early afternoon and the problem never comes up. Four people splitting a van changes the math, and our van versus commute breakdown has the numbers.
Panglao, Bohol: the easiest island
OceanJet runs about 13 fastcraft a day each way between Cebu and Tagbilaran, roughly two hours a crossing, from Pier 1. Tourist class has run ₱800 to ₱920 one way across 2026 as the fuel surcharge moved up and down, so check the price the day you book. The last boat back from Tagbilaran is 6:30 PM, which lands too late for a 7 PM plan; a mid-afternoon sailing gets you to Cebu around six.
Tagbilaran port to Panglao is under an hour by tricycle or taxi. Agree the fare before you get in. More on where to stay and what to skip is in the Bohol travel guide.
Camotes: the closest real island

Jomalia Shipping sails Danao to Consuelo at 5:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM, and back at the same times, about two hours a crossing. The 8:30 AM is the one a Saturday log-out can catch. Fares on the posted tables run ₱300 to ₱400 depending on class and the surcharge, and they disagree with each other, so bring the higher number in cash.
The 2:30 PM Sunday boat back is the trip that matters. The next one leaves at 5:30 PM and puts you in Danao at dusk with the drive still ahead. Port details and the Mactan option are in the Danao to Camotes guide.
Bantayan: worth it if the sandbar is the point
The bus from the North Bus Terminal to Hagnaya takes about three hours. It was ₱259 aircon on the July 2026 table, before the September increase. From Hagnaya the Super Shuttle Ferry crosses to Santa Fe in about an hour and a half, ₱330 to ₱392 regular depending on which posted table you read.
Ferries leave Hagnaya at 2 AM, 4 AM, 7 AM, 8 AM, 10 AM, 12:30 PM, 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM. An 8 AM bus makes the 12:30. Coming back, the posted schedule lists a last Santa Fe departure at 6 PM and another table says 5:30 PM. Neither matters if you take the 12:30 PM on Sunday, which is the only one that gets you home by evening. Costs for a longer stay are in the Bantayan budget breakdown.
Malapascua: only for the dawn dive

Four to five hours by bus to Maya, ₱320 aircon on the last table, then a boat across. Boats run until about 4 PM, so be at Maya by 3. The environmental fee is ₱75 for Filipinos and ₱120 for foreigners.
Thirteen of your 36 hours go to transit, which makes this a bad weekend for a beach and a fair one for the thresher shark dive at dawn, the one thing on the island you cannot get anywhere else in Cebu. If you are not diving, go to Bantayan instead. Boat details are in the northern Cebu ferry guide.
Two that need a 3 AM start instead
Oslob. Whale shark watching runs 6 AM to 10 AM, and only on days the sharks show up; there were days in May 2026 when they did not. Filipinos pay ₱500 with boat and guide, foreigners ₱1,000. The bus is about four hours from the South Bus Terminal, so the realistic version is a Saturday afternoon bus, a night in Oslob and the Sunday morning slot. The feeding is contested and we set out both sides in the Oslob guide before you decide.
Osmeña Peak. Registration is ₱50 at the Mantalongon trailhead in Dalaguete, after a bus south and a habal-habal up. It is a sunrise hike, which means sleeping in Dalaguete or Mantalongon on Saturday. Trail and fares are in the Osmeña Peak guide.
Busay: the zero-commute option
Coming off a week of nights, sleep until 1 PM, take a Grab up from IT Park for ₱200 to ₱350, and be at Temple of Leah for sunset. Entry is ₱150 on weekends. You sleep in your own bed and Sunday is still yours. It is the least exciting plan on this list and the one most people actually enjoy, because they are not doing it on four hours of sleep.
The annoying parts
Bus fares are moving. Provincial rates went up on September 28, 2026. Every bus fare on this page is the last posted figure and the floor, not a promise.
Southern last trips are not posted. Ferries publish schedules. The south-bound and north-bound Ceres routes publish an operating window and little else. Leave the far end by early afternoon on Sunday.
Sunday afternoon is everyone else’s return too. The earlier you leave the far end, the more likely you get a seat.
The weather cancels boats, not buses. In July 2026 a typhoon stopped sea trips across Cebu and Bohol for days. If the Coast Guard suspends trips on Friday, pick a mainland plan. Our rain-day swap system covers the backup.
Sleep debt is real. Every plan here has a nap before anything else. Skip it and the weekend becomes a long commute with a beach in the middle.
Pack once, leave from work
Keep a bag in the office locker: swimwear, a dry bag, a power bank, ₱2,000 in small bills for fees that do not take cards, and a printed or screenshot ticket for anything bought online. Leaving straight from the building saves the round trip home, which on a Saturday morning is the difference between the 8:30 boat and the 2:30. Our six-hour packing rule is the full list.
FAQ
Where can I go for a weekend from Cebu City without filing leave?
Moalboal and Kawasan, Panglao in Bohol, and the Camotes Islands all fit between a Saturday morning and Sunday evening with about seven to ten hours of travel. Bantayan and Malapascua fit too but take twelve to thirteen hours of transit.
What is the closest island to Cebu City for an overnight?
Camotes, by Jomalia ferry from Danao at 5:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 2:30 PM or 5:30 PM, about two hours each way. Bohol is similar in total time because the OceanJet fastcraft leaves from Pier 1 in the city and runs about 13 times a day.
What time is the last ferry from Bantayan to Hagnaya?
The posted Super Shuttle Ferry schedule lists 6 PM from Santa Fe, and another table lists 5:30 PM, as of November 2026. For a same-day return to Cebu City, take the 12:30 PM.
Can you do Malapascua in a weekend from Cebu City?
Yes, if you leave by 7:30 AM Saturday and take a boat back by 10 AM Sunday. Thirteen hours of the weekend go to transit, so it suits the dawn thresher shark dive more than a beach weekend.
How much is the bus from Cebu City to Moalboal?
The last posted fare was ₱210 aircon and ₱172 ordinary on the Ceres Bato via Barili route. Provincial bus fares rose on September 28, 2026, so expect slightly more.
Schedules, fares and fees checked November 1, 2026. Ferry times change with the season and the fuel surcharge; confirm the day before you go.
