Where Iloilo Airport actually is

The name can make first-time visitors picture a terminal in Iloilo City. The airport is actually in the municipality of Cabatuan. The Iloilo Provincial Government identifies the airport site across parts of Barangays Tabucan, Gaub, Duyan-Duyan and Manguna. The main airport road runs through Cabatuan, Santa Barbara and Pavia before reaching the city.

This location is not a problem when the first stop is a city hotel. It becomes important when you are trying to reach a ferry, a provincial bus or a meeting at a fixed time. A flight arrival time is not the same as the time you will be in a car. Taxiing, deplaning, baggage delivery and finding the driver all sit between those two points.

For planning, use your actual destination instead of typing only “Iloilo City.” Mandurriao, Iloilo Business Park and the SM City Iloilo area are different drop-off points from City Proper, Molo, Jaro or Parola Wharf. Send the hotel name and map pin to the driver before leaving the curb.

One terminal, two passenger flows

Iloilo has a single passenger terminal, not separate numbered terminal buildings. That makes the building easier to understand, but you should still read the airline, flight number and gate on your boarding pass. Domestic and international passengers use different processing areas, and gate assignments can move.

CAAP and the national government have described terminal rehabilitation as ongoing during 2026. The work covers areas and equipment such as escalators, flight information displays, baggage handling, air conditioning, passenger boarding bridges and other terminal systems. That does not mean all of them are unavailable. It does mean temporary work zones, equipment changes or a longer queue can appear. Follow airport signs and give yourself more time than the shortest possible airport routine.

Scheduled flight time is usually measured from departure gate to arrival gate, not only the time in the air. Taxiing, weather, runway sequencing and a remote-stand bus or walk can change the real journey. For onward planning, add deplaning, baggage claim and the Cabatuan road transfer after the time shown on the ticket.

Which international flights are operating?

Two international nonstops are operating. Scoot flies Singapore to Iloilo four times a week on an Embraer E190-E2, a route it opened on 14 April 2025 and has run since. Cebu Pacific flies Hong Kong twice a week, scheduled at roughly two and a half to two hours fifty. Hong Kong is the thin one, so a missed flight there costs more than a missed Manila service.

The services that are not running are Cebu Pacific’s own Singapore and Bangkok flights. Both were halted in March 2026 over jet fuel costs and the Middle East conflict, and on 18 August 2026 the airline said both would return on 23 November 2026, three times a week each, out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and back on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

That distinction is the one most searches get wrong. Singapore to Iloilo returns results because Scoot is flying it. Cebu Pacific to Singapore does not, until late November. Read which carrier the result belongs to before deciding a route is dead or alive.

Other overseas destinations require a connection through another gateway. A one-ticket itinerary can protect the connection better than separate tickets, but always check where immigration, baggage collection and rechecking take place. ILO is Iloilo. KLO is Kalibo, MPH is Caticlan and BCD is Bacolod Silay.

How early should you arrive?

The safest answer depends on the airline. Philippine Airlines advises arriving at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight. Cebu Pacific’s Iloilo guide is more conservative, advising three hours for domestic and four hours for international departures. Both carriers state that domestic counters close 45 minutes before departure and international counters close one hour before departure.

Use the more generous buffer if you have checked baggage, a group booking, a child, mobility assistance, an international departure or a flight during a holiday rush. Online check-in helps, but it does not replace bag drop, document inspection, security or immigration.

When Dinagyang changes the airport plan

Dinagyang weekend needs a different airport plan. The airport remains outside the city, but the road trip to or from your hotel can take longer once festival closures and rerouting begin. In 2026, Iloilo City suspended face-to-face classes on selected dates because it anticipated heavy traffic and road closures. The festival organizer also reduced the number of judging zones and changed the route specifically to ease congestion.

AirAsia operated 15 weekly Iloilo flights during the 2026 festival period. That shows how much airline attention the main weekend attracts, but it does not prove that every flight or terminal hour will be crowded. Book the flight and hotel earlier than you would for an ordinary January trip, then watch your airline for added or retimed services.

For departure day, pre-book the ride, add a generous road-time buffer and check the latest Iloilo City Government and official Dinagyang traffic map before leaving. Routes change by year, so last year’s advisory is not a reliable shortcut. Treat the airline’s recommended airport arrival time as the time you should already be inside the terminal, not the time to leave the city.

Domestic departure, step by step

1. Arrive at the departure curb. Keep a valid ID and booking details ready before entering.
2. Check the flight display. Find the airline counter or bag drop for your flight rather than joining the first line you see.
3. Complete check-in and baggage acceptance. A digital boarding pass may still require counter verification for some passengers.
4. Pass security. Put restricted items in the correct bag before reaching the checkpoint. Follow your airline’s current battery and power bank rules.
5. Find the gate early. Rehabilitation work can affect the walking route or equipment available. Watch the display screens for a gate change.

International departure, step by step

International processing adds document checks, immigration and travel tax questions. Bring the passport and destination documents required for your trip. Complete the official Philippine eTravel declaration within the permitted window. Registration is free at etravel.gov.ph. Ignore websites that ask for an eTravel registration fee.

Register on eTravel within 72 hours before an international arrival in the Philippines. Departing Filipino passengers must also register, subject to the government’s listed exemptions. Rules can change, so use the official portal rather than an old screenshot.

Philippine travel tax may apply to an international departure. It may already be included in the booking, or you may qualify for an exemption or reduced rate. Check the ticket and the TIEZA travel tax guidance before airport day. Iloilo has had a TIEZA airport counter, but its hours are limited and can change. Paying or confirming the requirement in advance removes one avoidable queue.

What happens after you land?

On a domestic arrival, follow the signs to baggage claim, collect checked bags and exit to the arrivals curb. If you have only cabin baggage, the process can be faster, but do not promise a driver a curb time based on touchdown alone.

On a direct international arrival, the order is immigration, baggage claim, customs and the public arrivals area. If you entered the Philippines through Manila or Cebu and then flew domestically to Iloilo, immigration and customs normally happen at the first Philippine gateway instead.

Before leaving the terminal, check that you have every bag, passport, phone and wallet. If an airline has delayed a bag, report it before walking out. Save the baggage tag until the trip is complete.

Getting from Iloilo Airport to the city

Grab is the clearest currently verifiable on-demand option. Its official airport page places the pickup at international and domestic arrivals and gives an approximate city travel time of 40 to 50 minutes. The app shows the fare before booking for most car services. Availability and prices rise and fall with demand.

Airport taxis and prearranged hotel or private transfers are also practical. Use an authorized queue or desk, agree on how the fare will be calculated and confirm the destination before the vehicle moves. A scheduled transfer is worth considering for a late arrival, a large group, a wheelchair, several suitcases or a fixed ferry connection.

Shared vans have commonly linked the airport with the SM City Iloilo area, but no dependable official timetable or fare was available for this update. Ask at the terminal on arrival and treat a van as an available option, not a guaranteed connection. If it is not loading soon, use another ride rather than sacrificing a ferry or bus departure.

Connecting from the airport to Guimaras

There is no ferry from the airport. The clean route is airport to Parola Wharf in Iloilo City, then a boat to Jordan or Buenavista in Guimaras. In March 2026, MARINA confirmed that the Parola, Jordan and Buenavista terminals were using digital passenger manifest systems through tap cards or QR codes. Follow the operator’s current registration process and carry a valid ID.

The Guimaras provincial government describes the boat crossing as roughly 15 to 20 minutes, but the whole transfer is much longer. From landing, allow time for deplaning, bags, the road journey to Parola, manifest or ticket processing, the queue and the sea crossing. A sensible daytime plan is at least two to three hours from touchdown to the Guimaras wharf when everything lines up.

Do not use that minimum for a late flight or rough weather. Southwest monsoon conditions have caused cancellations on Panay and Guimaras routes. Check the Philippine Coast Guard, PPA, MARINA or your operator before leaving the airport when winds and seas are poor. If the flight lands late, a night in Iloilo City is the safer plan.

Connecting from Iloilo Airport to Boracay

Boracay is possible from Iloilo, but it is not a quick connection. You still need a road trip across Panay to Caticlan Jetty Port, port processing, a boat crossing and an island transfer. A private vehicle can leave from the airport. Public transport usually means reaching the correct city or provincial terminal first, then taking a bus or van toward Caticlan.

Plan most of a day. A working estimate is seven to ten hours from touchdown to a Boracay hotel once baggage, the land journey, waiting time, jetty steps and the island ride are included. This is a planning buffer, not a published schedule. Road conditions, queues and sea weather can make it longer.

If the Iloilo flight lands in the afternoon or evening, stay in Iloilo and leave early the next day. A direct flight to Caticlan is usually the more efficient choice when Boracay is the only destination. Food, Wi-Fi, seating and other terminal basics

The terminal has food, small retail choices, seating and Wi-Fi, but opening hours and access conditions are not consistent enough to build a plan around them. Eat before an unusually early or late flight if that matters to you, and carry a mobile data backup. Keep a charged phone because boarding updates, ride bookings and onward transport messages may all arrive there.

Seventy-five luggage pushcarts were added through a provincial government and Grab initiative in 2025. Availability can still tighten when several flights arrive together. Keep small valuables with you and do not leave documents on a cart.

PAL Mabuhay Lounge: hours, access and batchoy

Philippine Airlines currently lists the Iloilo Mabuhay Lounge as open daily from 4:00 a.m. to 10:35 p.m. Business Class passengers and eligible Mabuhay Miles members can enter under PAL’s current access rules. Premier Elite members may bring one qualified companion, while Million Milers may bring two, provided everyone is traveling on the same flight and day. Seating can fill during peak hours.

PAL also lists paid myPAL Lounge access at ₱900 for eligible Premium Economy and Economy passengers who do not otherwise receive lounge entry. Paid access begins up to three hours before departure and remains subject to capacity and current terms. Recheck the price, eligibility and opening hours before your flight.

An Iloilo touch worth noticing is the batchoy. It was part of the lounge spread when these photos were taken, a warm local counterpoint to the arroz caldo PAL commonly promotes for its lounges. It makes the wait feel connected to the city beyond the runway. Menus rotate, so think of batchoy as something to look for rather than a guaranteed daily serving.

Accessibility and traveling with family

Request wheelchair, mobility or medical assistance through the airline as early as possible. Philippine Airlines and AirAsia ask for certain assistance requests at least 48 hours before departure. Cebu Pacific allows assistance to be declared in Manage Booking, but airport requests are subject to availability. Powered mobility devices need advance coordination because battery type, size and handling rules apply.

Tell the airline if a passenger cannot use stairs. Terminal rehabilitation can affect elevators, escalators or boarding bridges, and an airline needs time to arrange the right boarding process. At arrival, book a vehicle that fits the passenger, mobility device and luggage. Send the driver a message if curbside pickup takes longer.

Families should keep medicines, one change of clothes, feeding supplies and essential documents in cabin baggage within airline limits. Split the work at baggage claim: one adult watches the children while another identifies bags and contacts the driver.

Weather and the best buffer to use

PAGASA’s long-term Iloilo City climate normals show much higher rainfall from June through October than in the early months of the year, with July and August among the wettest months. That does not mean every day is rainy. It does mean road traffic, flight operations and sea connections deserve more room during the southwest monsoon season.

Where to go once you are in the city

The airport is not the destination and the Cabatuan road is the dullest part of the day. Molo is the obvious first stop, with the church, the plaza and the mansion inside a few hundred meters, and it is where pancit molo comes from. Miagao Church is the UNESCO one, forty kilometers south and worth the drive. Guimaras is a short ferry from Ortiz Wharf.

For eating, Breakthrough does seafood by the water and the oysters are the thing to order in this province. If you are only here between flights, a bowl of batchoy is the shortest version of Iloilo you can get.
